Land and the Cosmic: Works from the MAM Collection
April 23 - July 25, 2026
The MAM Collection holds a magnitude of artworks that focus on representing land. This makes sense as many of us are drawn to the region and kept here by the profound beauty of the environment.
While the MAM Collection includes examples of traditional landscape painting, this selection is meant to shift the emphasis towards artworks that depict how landscapes live within us as keepers of time and experience, as locators of knowledge, as kin. These are not landscapes seen from a distance, rather these works offer landscapes seen through the self.
This exhibition is full of tricksters and time bandits, ghosts, horror, honor, and love. It is largely disinterested in the traditional conventions of landscape genre like fixed horizons, godlike perspectives, or nature as an owned object. What it offers instead is something more embodied: land as a living web, where everything is connected to everything else, where the vastness makes you feel small, and that smallness somehow feels like coming home.
