A Living Portrait:
Artist's statement: " This is a series of paintings began 10 years ago when a social worker friend suggested that I paint her friend Ruthie, who was develpmentally disabled. As Ruthie modeled for me, I was struck by her gentleness of spirit and her diminutive presence. The portrait grew and with it my respect, understanding and enjoyment of this very special woman. I could not have realized it at the time, but my experience of painting Ruthie was to mark the beginning of work that would span a decade".
