Chicago-based artist Chris Pappan uses 19th century photographs and ledgers to make contemporary portraits inspired by underground comix, punk, and skateboard culture. Pappan will describe how he mirrors his subjects, distorts features or proportions, facets portraits, and reverses values to reimagine what otherwise would be a straight-forward rendering in a gallery talk at 7 PM.
Connect to the art, artists, and a community of art supporters at Missoula Art Museum on the First Friday of each month from 5 to 8 PM. Enjoy a reception with the artists and live music by KBGA, a no-host bar, and gallery talk at 7 PM. First Friday events are generously sponsored by the Missoulian.
