A native Montanan, Clairmont is a member of the Salish and Kootenai Tribes. After spending some time in the Los Angeles art scene, Clairmont was compelled to return to his home reservation and contribute his creativity and skills to that community. Clairmont’s powerfully conceptual work addresses his tribe’s right to sovereignty, illustrates a deep commitment to his community and communicates the struggle of his people. The publication includes essays and writings by the artist, MAM Director Laura Millin, MAM Curator of Exhibitions Stephen Glueckert, artist and writer Gail Tremblay and Manuela Well-Off-Man, PhD.
