Shared Histories - Understanding Paxon's Murals
Shared Histories: Understanding Paxson's Murals and the Nostalgic Interpretation of the Old West examines the suite of murals painted by E.S. Paxson for the Missoula County Courthouse, particularly two images depicting the Corps of Discovery meeting with the Salish and Nimipu (Nez Perce) tribes. Commentary from Salish educator Julie Cajune, art historian Hipolito Rafael Chacon, Ph.D, historians Dan Flores, Ph.D and Joseph Mussulman, Ph.D., and Nez Perce ethnographer Josiah Pinkham add a rich context for understanding historic and contemporary cultural issues.
