Hidden in Plain Sight: Photographing the Hutterites of Liberty County by Jill Brody
Hutterite colonies are a photographic Eden. Their colorful anachronistic clothing, the muted earthly tones of the prairie, and the immense skies become visually rich metaphors for the contrast of their centuries-old communal lives of faith with the increasingly vast, inescapable, individuating technological forces of the 21st Century forces that are tugging us all, ready or not, into the future.

The County provides MAM with invaluable operational funding and fine arts insurance while the City, as official owners of the building, provides rent-free occupancy and key maintenance and building care. These are just some of the myriad ways that both of our local governments are committed to nurturing the quality of life and economic activity that a lively arts and heritage-centric community offers.

Elizabeth Dove: Corpus of the Unknowable
This intimate exhibition of nine works from the Corpus of the Unknowable series was created in 2004 by Elizabeth Dove, Associate Professor of Art at the University of Montana. Dove incorporates text into her graphic works as a way of exploring memory and knowledge. She states, "I have been cutting up a dictionary for several years now, letter by letter, and saving the definitions to use in artwork. Corpus of the Unknowable displays about a hundred of these cut-up definitions; each print holding text dust behind a skin-like surface. Selecting dictionary definitions and then cutting them up talks about a perpetual search for meaning, the patient digestion of enormous qualities of information in an effort to understand, the impossibility of stabilizing knowledge."
