Art in Public Spaces
Two of Missoula Art Museum's most important supporters are Missoula County and the City of Missoula. The County provides MAM with invaluable operational funding and fine arts insurance while the City, as official owners of the building, provides rent-free occupancy and key maintenance and building care. These are just some of the myriad ways that both of our local governments are committed to nurturing the quality of life and economic activity that a lively arts and heritage-centric community offers.

Gesine Janzen: Floodplains
This exhibition combines two of Bozeman based artist Gesine Janzen's bodies of work that use river imagery to explore the passing of time and the elusive qualities of memory. Janzen employs multiple print processes such as woodcut, monotype, lithography, and intaglio to layer multiple colors, forms, and veils of ink. These layers reflect the physical qualities of flowing water and mimic the act of recollection.

Thomas' artworks depicts the quiet moments, places of transition between grass and sand, sky and water. His abstract drawings, paintings, and prints of the coastline suggest change and the resilience of native species. They also reflect the mood of shifting weather patterns and seasons.

MAM will feature Miller's talent and creative process in the form of a site-specific installation entitled Abbie Miller: Exit Strategies. Ever since MAM re-opened as an expanded museum in 2006 the exhibition staff has sought out artists working in installation and large-scale sculpture to create original works for the new beautiful spaces.

Every summer MAM hires a posse of positively wonderful art teachers to teach a range of art camps and provide stimulating art projects to MAM campers and art students. Karen McAlister Shimoda: Field Notes
Karen McAlister Shimoda moved from Missoula to Portland, OR at the beginning of 2015. During her daily walks in this new environment, she took notes to learn the flora of the unfamiliar forest and as a diary of observations. The observations and patterns worked their way into her art practice and are on display in this solo exhibition titled Field Notes. The exhibit is organized around three bodies of work.

Bicycle Eclectic: Photographs by Greg Siple
In the summer of 1972, four intrepid cyclists setoff on an epic journey to pedal the geographic length of the Americas. Two couples from Missoula, Greg and June Siple and Dan and Lys Burden, planned an expedition to ride their bicycles from Anchorage, AK to the southern tip of Argentina. At the end of their first summer, the riders arrived in Missoula with $100 between them.

Young artists will create a marionette-type puppet that depicts a character of their own invention. They will sculpt the head, hands, and feet and learn to stitch to make their puppet's body and costume. They will also use basic woodworking tools to string and construct a frame for their puppets. The class will finish with a cooperatively written and produced play featuring their puppets.
