Julia Becker: Root Orbit ~ Where the Spirit Meets the Bone
Julia Becker's installation plays in the vertical airspace
in the museum entrance, a place where forces of gravity and natural light take
precedence, a space that breathes into the other galleries, and is, in a sense,
at the heart of the museum. Becker says of her project, "I explore states of
floating and transience; grounding and displacement; gravity and time; regeneration
and decomposition; swimming, orbiting, free falling and filtration."
You're invited! Stop by to view and discuss Julia's work with her at MAM during her Artist's Reception on First Friday in June from 5-8 pm or join her artist's talk at Artini, June 19 at 7 pm.
Becker's
installation is the fourth of five exhibitions of the New Spaces/New Visions series sponsored by the Andy Warhol
Foundation. After an initial site visit in 2007, Becker will use natural and
found materials to complete her installation during a residency at MAM in May
2008. The installation will be featured
in a full-color catalogue featuring all five invited installation artists.
